Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) WHO Thailand Situation Report – 15 February 2020
HIGHLIGHTS
• Today, 15 February 2020, the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand announced a new laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 novel coronavirus case, the 34th confirmed case in the country so far.
• The case reported today is that of a 35-year-old health care worker who tended to a COVID-19 patient at a private hospital. According to the Ministry’s report, the health care worker did not wear a mask consistently while looking after the patient.
• WHO reiterates that health screening and surveillance systems in Thailand – at points of entry into the country as well as nationwide - are robust and capable of tracking suspected cases quickly, allowing health authorities to implement protocols to ensure isolation, contact tracing, testing and treatment of symptoms.
• Today’s report also indicates the importance of all health care personnel rigorously applying the required infection control measures when caring for suspected cases, including the correct use of appropriate face masks.
• Meanwhile, two COVID-19 patients, a 70-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both of whom suffered from serious underlying medical conditions before infection, remain in what authorities describe as a “severe condition.”
• Additionally, the 30-year-old man is reported to be on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), also known as extracorporeal life support, which is a technique of providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to a person whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion (the passage of blood, a blood substitute or other fluid through the blood vessels or other natural channels in an organ or tissue) to sustain life.
• The Ministry of Public Health also reports that 130 persons are currently under investigation, while 674 have been treated for symptoms and discharged. (These numbers have been revised downward by the Ministry of Public Health, after duplication of data was discovered.)
• 138 Thai nationals remain under a 14-day quarantine at Navy guesthouses after having been brought back to their country from Wuhan, China on 4 February. This quarantine period expires in the coming week. A man among this group who tested positive for novel coronavirus after displaying flu-like symptoms on 7 February is said to be doing well.
• The WHO R&D Blueprint is a global strategy and preparedness plan that allows the rapid activation of R&D activities during epidemics. On 11-12 February, WHO convened a global research and innovation forum in Geneva to mobilize international action and enable identification of key knowledge gaps and research priorities to contribute to the control of COVID-19. The forum included members of the scientific community, researchers from Member States’ public health agencies including from Thailand, regulatory experts and major funders of research related to COVID-19. During the meeting, the more than 300 participants agreed on a set of global research priorities and outlined mechanisms for continuing scientific interactions and collaborations beyond the meeting, to be coordinated and facilitated by WHO. They consulted with research funders to determine how necessary resources can be mobilized so that critical research can start immediately. The resulting roadmap will be used by researchers and funders to accelerate the research response.

Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin has called for a 4-day working week for the citizens of her country.
Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin has proposed the idea of a four-day-week and six-hour working day work schedule for the citizens of her country. This will allow people to spend more time with their families, Marin said. She also added that with a comfortable work schedule as such, people could also invest their time in other aspects of life.
"I believe people deserve to spend more time with their families, loved ones, hobbies and other aspects of life, such as culture. This could be the next step for us in working life," Sanna Marin said, The Daily Mail reports.
Sanna Marin, 34, is the world's youngest Prime Minister and assumed office in Finland on December 10, 2019. During her tenure as the Minister of Transport for Finland, Marin had also recommended shorter work weeks. Finland, at present, follows a five-day-week and eight-hour working day work schedule.

Meanwhile, Li Andersson, Minister of Education, supported Marin's proposal of a four-day-week and said, as per The Daily Mail, "It is important to allow Finnish citizens to work less. It is not a question of governing with a feminine style but offering help and keeping promises to voters."

प्रति 10 ग्राम के हिसाब से कीमतों को देखें, तो पाकिस्तान में 24 कैरेट सोने का भाव सोमवार को 80,075 रुपये प्रति 10 ग्राम हो गया है। वहीं, 22 कैरेट सोने का भाव 73,402 रुपये प्रति 10 ग्राम हो गया है।

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed "severe revenge" after the United States killed the commander of the Islamic republic's Quds Force, General Qasem Suleimani, in Baghdad on Friday."Martyrdom was the reward for his ceaseless efforts in all these years," Khamenei said on his Farsi-language Twitter account in reference to Suleimani, also declaring three days of mourning. "With him gone, God willing, his work and his path will not be stopped, but severe revenge awaits the criminals who bloodied their foul hands with his blood and other martyrs' in last night's incident." -- PTI

Reporter Carley McCord, LSU OC Steve Ensminger's daughter-in-law, dies in plane crash
ATLANTA -- LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger helped lead the Tigers past Oklahoma in a College Football Playoff semifinal on Saturday, hours after learning his daughter-in-law was one of five people killed when a private plane crashed in Lafayette, Louisiana. After the game, Tigers coach Ed Orgeron and members of the team had nothing but praise for Ensminger's perseverance.
"I was the one that had to tell (Ensminger), and ... here's what he said: 'Coach, we're gonna get through this,' Orgeron said after the 63-28 win over the Sooners in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.. "And obviously he was distraught, but he called a great game today. So, just goes to show you the integrity and the grit and the character of the men on our football team."
Carley McCord, a sideline reporter and sports talk radio host covering the New Orleans Pelicans, Saints and other sports, was traveling on a private plane to Atlanta to attend the game. Her husband, Steve Ensminger Jr., said he was unable to go to the game and was at work when the crash happened.
While quarterback Joe Burrow and some teammates said they didn't learn of the crash until after the game, LSU defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko was among the players who said they found out in the locker room prior to the game.
"It was tough. To just lose a loved one like that, I think we all kind of took that one to the heart," said Fehoko, who marveled at the team's offensive performance. "It's so tough, especially for Coach E, to come out and coach a game like he did tonight. Offense hung 63 points, they could've put up 75 if they wanted to. All the credit goes to him."
Burrow, who backed up his Heisman Trophy with a record-setting day that included seven touchdown passes and a rushing score, said he wasn't aware of the plane crash until after the game.
"That's a tough one. I'll have to go see coach for that one," Burrow said. "Obviously he's a great man, great family so I hope the world is praying for him."

MC Mary Kom refused to shake hands with Nikhat Zareen after defeating her in the women's 51kg final trials. Zareen has now claimed that the 6-time world champion used foul language in the ring during their bout.

Nikhat Zareen's long-standing wish of going toe-to-toe against the legendary MC Mary Kom ended in a 1-9 split decision defeat on Saturday. As a result of this win, Mary Kom made the Indian squad for the next year's Olympic qualifiers in China.
But controversy erupted after the boxing match as Mary Kom refused to shake hands with Nikhat Zareen with the Hyderabadi boxer even claiming that the six-time world champion used foul language against her in the during their bout.
"I did not like how she behaved with me. When the decision was announced, I tried to hug her but she did not hug me back. Being a junior I expect from seniors that they respect us too. But she did not hug me back, I felt hurt but that's ok. I don't mind.
"In the ring she used some bad words for me. I don't want to react on that right now," Nikhat told reporters at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium complex.
"I didn't lack anywhere. I performed better than I did at the India Open. Today I played all out. I don't agree. It was a close bout and could have gone either way so I don't think the score should have been 9-1," Nikhat added.
Nikhat's father also backed her daughter's claim and revealed that she was in tears due to the language used by Mary Kom during the bout.
"Winning-losing is part of an athlete's life. But Nikhat was in tears because of the language used. The boxers shake hands or hug after the verdict, no matter who wins or loses. But Mary instead said something foul to her. You have served the country for so long. But what message are you sending out when you use such words in the ring?" Nikhat's father Jameel Ahmed said.

At 7:22 a.m., the plane, a Fokker 100, bound for Nur-Sultan, the Kazakh capital, lost altitude and crashed into a two-story building, officials said. The crash took place in a residential area near the airport, Mr. Nurakhmetov said.

The cause was not immediately known. Photographs carried by Kazakh news outlets showed the fuselage of the passenger jet ripped to pieces amid the rubble of a building.

Kazakh authorities have halted flights of the Dutch-made Fokker 100, news agencies reported, citing the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development.
On Twitter, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan expressed his condolences to the victims and said a government commission headed by the country’s prime minister, Askar Mamin, would investigate the crash.
“All the guilty will be punished severely in accordance with the law,” Mr. Tokayev said.
Production on the Fokker 100 ceased in 1997, after its Dutch maker went into bankruptcy in 1996. Though many airlines have retired the aircraft, more than 100 are still active, mostly in Australia and Iran.
The plane measures about 39 yards long, and has a passenger capacity of 109 people.
'You' Season 2 stalks onto Netflix with a new twisted romance
"You" joins a long list of programs that found a second life on Netflix, but with a peculiar twist: Lifetime actually ordered two seasons in advance, only to experience buyer's remorse after airing the first. The show found a warmer reception on Netflix, which brings the stalker drama back with all of quirky, unsettling appeal intact.
Based on Caroline Kepnes' book, the first season of "You" focused on bookstore employee Joe (Penn Badgley), whose unhealthy obsession with a young women prompted him to use his web savvy to insinuate himself into every part of her life. Season two finds Joe having moved to another city seeking refuge, taking up residence in Los Angeles, where all the usual "Love your script" stereotypes apply. Before long, however, a new woman, the unfortunately named Love (Victoria Pedretti), has caught his eye, launching him down a road similar to the one that he just navigated, despite his heavily narrated protestations to the contrary.
"I won't let this situation go bad," Joe muses in a later episode. "I've been through that."
Indeed he has, and one of the particularly clever -- if somewhat queasy -- aspects of "You" is that it forces the audience to see things through Joe, despite what a damaged and dangerous loon he is.
Badgley, in fact, makes him oddly sympathetic, to the extent that's possible. It helps that the writers (topped by executive producers Sera Gamble, Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti) derive considerable humor from the strange moments in which Joe finds himself, a bit like that scene in "Psycho" when Norman Bates is seized by momentary panic when the car he's trying to hide doesn't immediately sink into the lake.
Joe, moreover, isn't the only bad guy around, which gives his exploits a small "Dexter" vibe. In this case, that includes his interactions with a sleazy celebrity (Chris D'Elia) who, the evidence suggests, might harbor an unhealthy interest in young girls.

In some respects, "You" just feels like one of the CW shows that Berlanti produces -- just really sharply executed, with a densely serialized edge. This season's arc does feel more layered, including flashbacks that offer further insights, perhaps, into how Joe became the way he is -- not to the point of excusing it, but better understanding what shaped him.
The suave killer, of course, is an unfortunate trope in movies and TV, and "You" can't be divorced from that context. Buried within the show, though, is a warning about social interactions in the modern age, and the way people can be manipulated online thanks to the volume of information that's available.
In that sense, the series serves as a highly binge-able, very modern thriller, if not, hopefully, what anyone will view as a template for modern romance.

And they were level on 63 minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished off at the near post. Arsenal then wasted a host of chances, with Alexandre Lacazette guilty of missing when put through one-on-one, but saw his effort saved by Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Arsenal appeared the likelier team to score next, but it was Bournemouth who then had the ball in the back of the net through Callum Wilson, only to see the goal disallowed for an offside.

The league leaders, who won the Club World Cup title by beating Brazil's Flamengo last Saturday, take on second-placed Leicester City on Thursday and host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, but other teams including Manchester City are not as fortunate.

Adam Sandler has been, since his work in SNL, the only actor I’ve crossed the street to avoid.
Sandler has been for me, the worst actor since Sonny Tufts in the 40s and Tab Hunter in the 50s.
Adam Sandler has consistently been for this reviewer, the coughing man in the elevator, the wind-breaking guy in the checkout line at the market, and the corpse in the subway.
So, why did I agree to screen “Uncut Gems” at the Railroad Cinema in Waterville? For the same reason the mailman walks in the snow to deliver catalogs to your house, or the trash man picks up the trash. It’s my job.

Then something happened. I was hit with the biggest surprise of the decade.
In “Uncut,” Adam Sandler throws off his decades of trash and grows up in front of your eyes. The moron of “Happy Gilmore,” the unspeakable ham of “Spanglish,” was magically transformed by a superior script and genius of the Safdie brothers.
Who woke him up? The Safdie brothers, Joshua and Benny, (“Daddy Longlegs,” “Good Time,”) that’s who. (There’s an eight-page piece on them in the Dec. 16 New Yorker.)
When “Uncut Gems” opens on Christmas Day, you will be one of the first to be there to witness, if not the rebirth of Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, at least his bar mitzvah.
Sandler plays Howard, a jewelry dealer on Manhattan’s 7th Avenue diamond district, a motor-mouthed, gambling-addicted megalomaniac, who owes mobsters over $1,000K and who, as the movie progresses, follow him from his glassed-in shop to his home in the ‘burbs to bloody his nose, strip him naked at his daughter’s school play, and lock him in the trunk of his Mercedes. There’s more.
Howard, who has been since birth, looking for the biggest deal, the biggest score in the business, is the contemptuous, boorish, annoying and apparently successful member of a family of the noted successful Jewish jewelers headed by family friend Gooey, (Judd Hirsch.)
Here is Sandler as Howard, goatee, fancy belt, Gucci loafers, custom-made sunglasses and Ralph Lauren street clothes. He makes his way through the garbage littered streets of the city each day, followed by loan sharks and gangsters.
It seems that the brothers Safdie were born in a taxi cab and left to grow up on the streets of their city. As Howard plunges through the day, dodging imminent death and possible disfigurement, we can smell the diamond district’s people, the overwhelming stench of women’s cheap perfume and killer gangsters’ cologne.
Orson Welles’ “Rosebud”and maybe Bogie’s “Falcon,” emerge here as a huge rock full of gems stolen from the diamond mines in the Well Mine of Ethiopia. It arrives stuffed in a sturgeon, wrapped in paper. Howard had ordered it. How? Don’t ask. It’s the stuff dreams are made of.
Howard’s wife Dinah (Idina Menzel) is looking to unload him to his office worker girlfriend Julia (Julia Fox,) who, like his two boys, adores him. That’s the soft part.
Armed with a fish-smelling rock, Howard is looking to sell it and pay off his debtors, a pack of arm breakers that include his cousin Arno (Eric Bogosian) who may be part of the Jewish Mafia.uncut gems netflix

Be warned, very warned. “Uncut Gems” is no Christmas movie. There are no real sex scenes, but it’s vulgar, loud, obscene, scary, a crime thriller disguised as a comedy. I lost count of the use of the F, C and M.F. words after number 617.
Still, having grown up on similar streets, I settled for nostalgia.
You may disagree, but I’m betting that “Uncut Gems” will be nominated for Best Picture and Sandler for Best Actor. I can’t believe I just said that.
