Tamil Nadu local body election results 2019 LIVE: DMK wins 63 Gram Panchayat wards, AIADMK 56

The Tamil Nadu local body election results will be declared on Thursday. The counting of the votes for 313 panchayats in Tamil Nadu began at 8 am at several counting centres. The polls were conducted in 27 districts in Tamil Nadu after the state election commission was ordered by the Supreme Court to postpone polls in districts in Tamil Nadu that have undergone changes -- Kallakurichi, Tenkasi, Tirupattur, Ranipet, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Vellore and Kancheepuram.
TAMIL NADU LOCAL BODY ELECTION RESULTS LIVE UPDATES:
9:33 pm: Justice M Sathyanarayanan of the Madras High Court commenced hearing of DMK's plea regarding the announcement of results. The party had earlier alleged that the results of those seats where it has won are not being declared.
9:00 pm: There is a high profile meeting happening at both the AIADMK headquarters and the DMK headquarters. At the AIADMK HQ, CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, DCM O Panneerselvam and other senior members of the AIADMK are present. At the DMK HQ, MK Stalin is heading the meeting with other senior party leaders. Both the meetings, according to sources, is in connection with the local body elections
6:51 pm: A Riya, a transgender candidate from DMK, who contested in Thiruchengode Union has won the elections with a margin of 950 votes.
6:42 pm: The Madras High Court has granted the DMK its permission for an urgent hearing of a case seeking the declaration of results of all local bodies where counting had been completed. Justices M Sathyanarayanan and R Hemalatha have agreed to hear on Friday. Now, the DMK has approached CJ, demanding that the case be heard today itself. The case would be heard today itself by Justice M Sathyanarayanan.

6:00 pm: DMK, AIADMK workers protest outside counting centre in Madukarai
At a counting centre in Coimbatore's Madukarai, DMK cadres protest demanding the announcement of the winner. Meanwhile, AIADMK cadres protest demanding recounting of votes. A large number of police officials have arrived at the spot.
5:51 pm: DMK ahead of AIADMK in the early trends
DMK has won a total of 77 seats in the gram panchayat wards while the AIADMK has won 64 positions.
5:00 pm: Counting was temporarily stopped in Arasur in Coimbatore after polling agents alleged that the sealed sack 12 was missing in that particular ballot box.
The agents who were involved in the counting of votes walked out of a counting centre in Dindugal alleging that they were not provided food.
4:26 pm: DMK cadres stage a sit-in protest outside the collectorate demanding that the Tamil Nadu local body election results be announced.
Party leader MK Stalin had alleged that there is an intentional delay in announcing the results in places where DMK is winning.
4:18 pm: MK Stalin's DMK has taken a lead in 399 seats of the Panchayat union posts while the AIADMK has gained in 344 of the 5067 seats.
In the wards, DMK is leading in 138 seats, while the AIADMK has managed to gain the lead in 134 ward member posts.
2.45 pm: Justices M Sathyanarayanan & R Hemalatha of Madras HC agree to hear tomorrow a case to be filed by DMK regarding alleged irregularities in ongoing counting of votes for the rural local body polls.
2.30 pm: At present, DMK is leading in 94 places in the 515 ward member of district panchayat, and DMK is leading 200 seats in 5067 members of Panchayat union post
2.20 pm: DMK is moving an urgent mention in Madras High court alleging that election officials are intentionally delaying declaring results in areas where DMK has performed well.
2.00 pm: DMK chief Stalin has gone to the state election commission over issues in the counting in different places. Stalin says that in Salem Dindigul and many other places, the DMK has still not been announced as the winner. Stalin said there is fear that it is done intentionally. The DMK chief also threatened to protest if any foul play happens in the counting.
12.15 pm: Counting delayed in Pattukottai in Thanjavur district due to delay in preparatory work.
11: 45 am: Counting process halted for nearly 30 minutes in Othiyathur panchayat in Villupuram after the absence of seal on two ballot boxes.
9.30 am: In a tragic incident police SI Murugadas collapsed, died while on duty at a counting centre in Danish Mission School, Tiruvannamalai. At the same polling station, counting staff resorted to protest alleging lack of facilities such as food and water.
07.30 am: Counting to begin shortly
In the first phase, areas covered by 156 panchayat unions saw polls to elect 260 ward members of district panchayats, 2,546 members of panchayat unions and 37,830 members of panchayats.
In the second phase, a total of 158 panchayat unions saw polling to elect 38,916 panchayat members, 2,544 members of panchayat unions and 255 ward members of district panchayats.
